Home page > Tephramap TephramapFrom the start Tephrabase has included a mapping feature. We originally designed an interface between Tephrabase and the XeroxPARC Map Viewer. This early web mapping service has since been discontinued. Tephrabase now uses Google Maps as its main mapping facility. Many will already be familiar with this service. It is particularly useful in that it provides satellite imagery of varying resolutions for the whole world. Google Maps appear at relevant places on Tephrabase. For example, if you search for all the sites where Hekla 4 is found, a Google Map will be produced along with the other information. Although Google Maps is an excellent, the amount of detail on the maps varies from very detailed to none. So I have retained the links to maps created by Multimap.com (which is owned by Microsoft). The maps of remote areas often contain more detail than Google Maps. Hopefully by using a combination of the two services you will find out all the information you need. |
