Home page > Tephramap TephramapFrom the start Tephrabase has included a mapping feature. We originally designed an interface between Tephrabase and the XeroxPARC Map Viewer. This early web mapping service has since been discontinued. Tephrabase now uses Google Maps as its main mapping facility. Many will already be familiar with this service. It is particularly useful in that it provides satellite imagery of varying resolutions for the whole world. It also has simply controls where users can varying the scale, switch between map, satellite and hybrid views. So Google Maps appear at relevant places on Tephrabase. For example, if you search for all the sites where Hekla 4 is found, a Google Map will be produced along with the other information. Feel free to change between satellite and map mode, to pan around the maps and to zoom in and out. I hope that users will find this a useful new addition to the site. I intend to develop this mapping feature in the future. ![]() Although Google Maps is an excellent service, the amount of detail on the maps varies from very detailed to none. So I have retained the links to maps created by Multimap.com. The maps of remote areas often contain more detail than Google Maps. Hopefully by using a combination of the two services you will find out all the information you need. |
