The Hekla 1636 eruption from the Hekla Volcanic System

Summary

The volume of tephra is calculated as freshly fallen. This eruption was silicic, although there are no known deposits outside of Iceland. It is possible that this eruption began on the 15 May. Although the initial phase was similar to the 1947 eruption, the production of tephra was much lower. Tephra produced during the initial phase was carried to the north-east and damaged grassland around the volcano.
