The Hekla 1510 eruption from the Hekla Volcanic System

Summary

This eruption of Hekla is fairly similar to the 1947 eruption. The plinian phase of the eruption was probably more violent than in 1947. Tephra was carried south-east. The wt SiO₂ is around 62% and the 1510 tephra has a virtually identical geochemistry to the 1947 eruption. The volume of tephra is calculated as freshly fallen. This tephra has been found in both Scotland and Ireland.
