The Hekla 4 tephra is a typical plinian deposit and was produced by an eruption about 3800 radiocarbon years BP. It is nornal to refer to the Hekla 4 tephra, not the Hekla 4 eruption, it has been classified as an eruption in order that the link to Hekla can be made.
